ABB Robot IRC5 New Teach Pendant SxTPU4 Software Installation

The installation of ABB Robot IRC5 new teach pendant SxTPU4 software can be done in several ways. One way is to download the update from the “Add-Ins” tab in RobotStudio and save the software package (.rspak) to a USB drive in a folder named ‘sxtpu4’. Then connect the USB drive to the flex pendant and restart it. The update will start automatically and take about 3-4 minutes.

I. Introduction
IRC5 FlexPendant Generation 4 (SxTPU4) software is distributed as a plug-in called FlexPendant SxTPU4 Software. The plug-in contains support for different RobotWare versions. When you start the FlexPendant, the version of the plug-in will be displayed.
II. Installation
When you connect the FlexPendant to a robot controller that has been updated with a specific version of the plug-in, it verifies whether the RobotWare version on the controller is supported. If the RobotWare version is not supported, the FlexPendant must be updated with updated software or a later version of the plug-in build. There are several methods for updating the FlexPendant software.

• Update via USB (connected to FlexPendant)
• Update via controller path /hd0a/temp/SxTPU4
• Update via plugin installed as option on Robot controller
• Automatic update via distribution included in RobotWare (in the future)
  III. Update using USB drive
  Please use the following steps to update the FlexPendant using the plugin package stored on a USB drive.

1. Download the update from the ‘Add-Ins’ tab in RobotStudio.
2. Save the package (.rspak) to the USB drive in a folder called ‘SxTPU4’.
3. Connect the USB drive to the FlexPendant and restart the FlexPendant.
4. The update will start automatically and take about 3-4 minutes. Do not turn off the power during the update.
   The SxTPU4 FlexPendant with software plugin version 1.4.0 or higher installed will check if there is an update available when the USB drive is connected. When an update is available, a message box will be displayed

IV. Update using controller path /hd0a/temp/SxTPU4

For software version 1.4.0 or higher, installation from /hd0a/temp/SxTPU4 is supported. Please use the following steps to update the FlexPendant using the plug-in package stored on the controller folder /hd0a/temp/SxTPU4.

1. Download the update from the “Add-Ins” tab in RobotStudio.
2. Save the package (.rspak) to the controller folder /hd0a/temp/SxTPU4.
3. Restart the FlexPendant.
4. The update will start automatically and take about 4-5 minutes. Please do not turn off the power during the update.

This update type is only supported when software version 1.4.0 or higher is installed on the FlexPendant.

V. Update via robot controller

Please use the following steps to update the FlexPendant using the plug-in installed as an option on the robot controller.

1. In RobotStudio, use Installation Manager 6 to create or update a system on the controller. Add the product “FlexPendantSxTPU4Software”.
2. The SxTPU4 FlexPendant connected to the controller will be automatically updated, which takes about 4-5 minutes. Do not turn off the power during the update.
3. Automatic update via RobotWare
   Automatic update via RobotWare release is supported when the software version is 1.4 or higher. The release package will be part of RobotWare 6.15.04 and higher.
4. Downgrade
   Downgrading the software is not currently supported.
