ABB Robot – Modify Controller IP

To modify the IP address of an ABB robot controller, first access the controller’s system settings. Navigate to the network configuration section. Enter the new IP details, including the address, subnet mask, and gateway. Ensure the new IP is within the correct network range. After inputting, save the changes. Some controllers may require a reboot to apply the new IP successfully.

  1. Usually, when an industrial computer controls an ABB robot, it is not necessary to modify the robot’s IP, because the robot’s Service port has a fixed IP address (cannot be modified), as shown in the figure. Other devices only need to be modified to the same network segment as the robot to be used normally.
  2. When an industrial computer controls multiple (more than 2) robots, since the robot service port
IP cannot be changed, the industrial computer needs to be equipped with multiple network cards. Another way is to connect to the WAN port of the ABB robot.
  3. The IP of the WAN port can be modified. The following are the modification steps
① Connect the ABB Service port to the PC, modify the PC to the 125 network segment, and set the “Speed and Duplex” in the properties of the PC network card to 100Mbps.
    ② Open RobotStudio, Controller-Properties-Network Settings
③ Set the IP you need
    ④ Restart the controller
⑤ At this time, unplug the network cable of the Service port and plug it into the WAN port. The controller programming in RobotStudio is unavailable. Do not shut down the controller.
⑥ Change the IP address of the PC to the same network segment as the IP address of the robot WAN port. The “Speed and Duplex” of the network card can be set to Gigabit mode. After waiting for dozens of seconds, the system will automatically reconnect.
⑦ Set up other robots in the system according to steps ②-⑥.
⑧ After the settings are completed, do not directly click “Add Controller” in RobotStudio, otherwise an exception will occur.
⑨ Directly click the inverted triangle under “Add Controller”
⑩ Select the controller to be controlled. The previously connected controller is optional. Click to control the robot and write Rapid programs. Three robots are connected in this case.
⑪ The host computer program controls the robot controller. The robot offline programming is still available. When using it, select a different robot according to the robot’s Guid ID.
